Spaces and Rooms...Good Friends

As I alluded in yesterday's video, Spaces have knowledge that they occupy the same location as a Room.  This allows for some nice workflow choices when doing things like tagging and scheduling.  Let's check out how to accomplish this with this video.

Referencing Room Parameters in Spaces

I hope that info will be helpful as you all embark on the odyssey of Revit MEP 2009 usage in a bit.  We'll pick up our discussion on Space creation and workflow changes regarding volumes next week, so be sure to stop back at the 'ole blog, or you can just add my RSS Feed to your reader.

Please leave a comment if you have any questions on the topics we're covering.  I'll see what I can do to answer them, I'd like to set a precedent of a dialog, not a lecture with these new features.

Video is really helpful.Thank you!
One suggestion here, please number those video that it could be easier to check whether i have downloaded them or not.

Is there anyway to monitor the rooms. For example, if i have a space that has been calculated by IES and have the appropriate amount of air supplied to the space and I get a revised model from the architect, how do I know if the room size has changed? Did we loose the Coordination Review part of the workflow?

The Coordination Review never detected changes in Copy/Monitored Rooms.

I recommend that you use schedules to display Space Information and Diffuser Information. With Conditional Formatting you can detect if things get out of whack in your model.

Cheers,
Kyle

I just went through the process of redefining the tags as you suggested. This is great for display purposes. But when I export it to gbxml, it's still using the space name and number parameters, not the room's. Is there a way to change this?

By the way thanks for all the great info you post here.

Brian

Is there a way to change the Name and Number of the Spaces to the Room Name and Number in a Schedule?
Thanks

Hi Kyle,

Really loving all the vids, very helpful.
In this one you explained how to make a tag reference the arch room name and number but what about in a schedule. I tried to create a space schedule and show the arch room name and number but they are not there to select as one of your fields.
So my question is, how can we referecne these arch room name & number inside a space schedule?

cheers, Bren

The video is very helpful to edit the space tag to read the room parameter data. However this will not show in a space schedule and more importantly it will not show in an electrical panel schedule. Panel Schedules read space tags for the naming of the circuits. Panel Schedules are locked down as to what you can show, i have not found a way for this schedule to read the room name and number, any ideas?
