Zoning it Up

Now that you've all had a day to calm down from the excitement induced by my last post, I thought I'd continue the momentum into the next logical step...creation of Zones.

Those of you familiar with Groups, MEP Systems, or MEP Circuits will feel right at home with the user interaction that's been implemented around Zones.  Spaces are the building blocks and you can either use existing Spaces or add them from within the Zone Editor.  There's my 2 sentence explanation of the workflow.  For a more detailed explanation, go ahead and watch my video below.

Kyle, Thanks heaps for the effort you put into your blog. The content is always rich and I wait for my RSS daily to see if you have posted any new goodies. BIM and Revit are taking over the Engineering industry. I just wish the Managing Directors knew this like we users do. Thanks again

I sense this question being covered in future videos but I'll ask it anyway.

Do the zones and zone information carry through in the xml to external load analysis programs like Trane Trace and IES?

Yes, Zoning information is added to our gbXML data stream.

Will the architect need to make a level for the plenum spaces?? if it's a multi story office space with a plenum return for all levels.. Just wondering cause I know some of the architects just use level 1, level 2, etc.. and those levels are usually slab to slab, with no level for Plenum Spaces..

Nope, you can manage that in your Host model. I covered that workflow earlier in my post "Space Creation - Part 1."

Kyle

super

I am a bit dense. What are spaces from the Revit Architecture side? Are they really Rooms or can rooms be used to create spaces?

Could spaces be useful for Revit Architectural?

Kevin
